The main purpose of the Kajwa Mahotsav or Fireflies Festival is to help tribal people to generate the revenue in their own small villages and stop their migration to the overcrowded cities.

There are some interesting facts about Fireflies (Kajwa) that you should know before joining this festival.

The best time to look for Fireflies is the last week of May and the first week of June. It depends on the monsoon. If it is very heavy rainfall, they cannot afford the weight of drops.
If you flash a torch on a full of fireflies, they become crazy. Male firefly must think that big firefly has come to steal their female fireflies.
They are not bugs, flies or roaches. They are beetles!
There are more than 2000 species of firefly and each has its own unique pattern of flashing.
Firefly is only alive for two months i.e. May and June. They hatch from their eggs, become the cool flickering bulbs, attract a mate, lay eggs and then die. The eggs then hatch the next May!
Male can fly higher than female. Female firefly will stay on leaves. If a male passes by and if they like flashing then they flash again. The male stops, they mate and the female lays the eggs.
Firefly looks like roaches. But they are not! You can take them on your hands. Maybe you may feel a slight pain.
The main thing to be taken into consideration is your footwear. Whenever you participate in this Kajwa Mahotsav 2019, you have to go through dark streets and farms. If there is excessive rainfall in that particular area then there is a possibility of falling in the soil. So, take good, sturdy footwear!
